Pioneers Split Opening Day With HLGU

PARAGOULD, Ark. - The Crowley's Ridge Pioneers and the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans each had their weekend games called off due to rain, but players want to play! So after a quick series of phone calls for approvals, the Trojans packed up and headed to Pioneer Field for a four-game set featuring a double-header on Friday followed by a twin-bill on Saturday.

GAME 1

HLGU - 7

CRC - 2

The opening game of The Pioneers' (0-1) 2020 campaign was off to a hot start with quickly retiring the first set of batters in order, the last two being on strikeouts. Dallan Stotts was zeroed in on the plate en route to 5 total Ks.

Offensively, CRC was led by Bobby Wright's 2-3 afternoon which included a run. Luke Helm and Tyler Battles helped bring in the two CRC runs in the bottom of the 6th.

Unfortunately, it was a long-ball from Jacob Bone and a 5-run fourth inning by the Trojans (3-2) that would propel them to victory.

GAME 2

HLGU - 4

CRC - 5

Peyton Maddox toed the rubber and picked off where Stotts' efficiency left off. Five Trojans were sat down on strikes by the Senior.

His offense helped him out as the Pioneers (1-3) picked up their first win of the season off the bat of Zorey Chipman, who had two doubles and came around to score.

With the go-ahead Trojan (3-2) run at the plate, the call to the bullpen was made and Bobby Wright entered to try for the save. One strikeout and one groundout later, CRC entered the win column.

COMING UP

The Pioneers and Trojans will finish up their four-game weekend with a doubleheader tomorrow (2/8) beginning at 1pm.
