Mustangs Combine To No-Hit the Pioneers

CONWAY, Ark. – The Pioneers took their first road trip of the 2020 season and were unable to get a victory in the mid-week doubleheader, dropping two at Central Baptist (Ark.).

GAME ONE

CRC – 5

CBC – 10

Tyler Daugherty got his first start of the season for the Pioneers (2-8), but a shaking outing had the Mustangs (12-3) jump out to an early lead after a leadoff double by Alex Flores and a later single gave CBC a 2-0 lead.

The Pioneers would not go easily, netting a total of five runs in the final two innings. Tyler Battles doubled home Bobby Wright to start the Pioneer scoring, coming home himself to score after a Brayden Ross double.

Three consecutive singles in the final frame set up Zorey Chipman, Nate Finney, and Peyton Maddox up for a two-run double by Luke Helm to deep right field including a Mustang error. Unfortunately for the Green and White, the late inning heroics proved to be too little, as the Pioneers fell 10-5.

Finney ended a pair of hits, while Helm led the team with two RBIs. Facing eight batters in relief, Peyton Moore struck out two Mustang batsmen.

GAME TWO

CRC – 1

CBC – 13

The Mustang (13-3) bullpen showed out in the nightcap, combining for a four-pitcher no-hitter against the Pioneers (2-9).

The lone run for Crowley's Ridge came in the second inning when Luke Helm began the inning by being hit by a pitch – and then scored on a fielder's-choice.

The Crowley's Ridge lead was short-lived as Central Baptist capped off their half of the second by plating five runs off of four hits headlined by a two-run double by Willie Baez.

CBC used four pitchers to combine for the no-no; each hit one batter, but the four only allowing one walk while striking out five Pioneers.
