PARAGOULD, Ark. - Crowley's Ridge hosted Lane (Tenn.) College for the 2021 home opener which saw both teams taking away a victory. The Pioneers won the opening game in dramatic fashion 10-9 before the Dragons took the second game 8-3.
GAME ONE
Lane - 9
Crowley's Ridge - 10
The Pioneers (5-4) took advantage of Dragon miscues in the final frame by plating six runs including the walk-off single from Corbett Seib. Jack Roney tossed a four-inning no-decision before Nick Garrett relieved him and earned the victory.
CRC and Lane College (0-2) pounded out 27 combined hits; however, both teams failed to capitalize on the basepaths by stranding 12 baserunners throughout the game.
The big inning was the seventh for the Pioneers with Corbett Seib leading off the inning with a single. The Dragons would commit three of their five errors in the frame allowing CRC to constantly be in scoring position. With runners on second and third, Lane tried to coax a double-play ball by intentionally walking Bobby Wright. An error would erase that possibility allowing Kole Simms and Nate Finney to score the tying runs. Seib then earned his second hit of the inning, driving in Wright with the walk-off hit.
The Pioneers saw Seib, Zorey Chipman, and Austin Gross each collect a pair of hits, with four others recording a hit. Bobby Wright showed his upper-class patience at the plate, drawing three walks.
GAME TWO
Lane - 8
Crowley's Ridge -3
Still riding high from driving in the winning run, Corbett Seib went to the hill to start the second game of the doubleheader for the Pioneers (5-5). Despite earning the loss, Seib struck out nine batters while giving up as many hits.
Lane (1-2) picked up their first win thanks to a great day at the plate. Consistently forcing deep counts and quality at-bats, the Dragons had Seib tossing 123 pitches over six innings of work.
Crowley's Ridge pushed the envelope, tying the game in the bottom of the third inning after Bobby Wright, Trey Gossett, and Austin Gross drawing walks. A pair of errors from the Dragons allowed Gossett to score followed by Gross.
Lane plated two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to jump ahead by five runs. Meanwhile, lefty Tavariz Brown locked in and shut the Pioneers out in the final four innings to pick up the win.
Crowley's Ridge only had two hits in the contest, one from Nate Finney and the other coming off of the bat of Zorey Chipman.
