DALLAS – The hosting Dallas Christian (Texas) College Crusaders combined for five home runs over both games of Saturday's doubleheader. Crowley's Ridge was toppled in game one by a 24-6 final score before wrapping up their Texan weekend with a 15-4 loss.
Game One
Crowley's Ridge – 6
Dallas Christian – 24
The day started well for Crowley's Ridge (7-17, 0-0 CAC) with Kole Simms legging out a triple before Tanner Davis answered with a three-bagger of his own to plate both Simms and Andrew Brown, on base after being hit by a pitch. With JackHenry Glasgow (0-3) on the hill, the Pioneers hit the field defensively with a 2-0 lead.
Dallas Christian (9-17) answered with a five-spot in the home half of the first after a bases-loaded walk and three singles. The hosting Crusaders put up crooked numbers in each of the first four innings, including a 10-run fifth. Four different Crusaders hit home runs.
Back-to-back-singled to lead off the third inning helped the Pioneers put up two more runs, with Garett Wilson - running for Phoenix Beal - scoring thanks to Brown's single before Simms was plated on Tanner Davis's double.
Despite falling behind early, the Pioneer bats kept going strong with Chipper Lamb driving in Zorey Chipman on CRC's fourth extra-base hit. Lamb would later come in to score the Pioneers' sixth and final run on Simms' single to left field.
Simms was 3-for-3 from the plate, driving in one run, while Davis was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.
Game Two
Crowley's Ridge – 4
Dallas Christian – 15
Crowley's Ridge (7-18, 0-0 CAC) committed five errors in the game two loss, with a Dallas Christian (10-17) grand slam in the middle of an eight-run fourth inning propelling the hosts to victory.
Kaden Hargrove (0-3) got the start for the Pioneers, striking out four batsmen in three innings of work.
Crowley's Ridge waited until the top of the sixth inning to score their first runs with pinch-hitters doing a majority of the work. Josh Schmitt's leadoff double put the Pioneers on the board when he was driven home by Matthew Parker's RBI single. Noah Overshine followed with a single to plate Jackson Imler. A wild pitch in the next at-bat saw Parker crossing home plate to give the men in green their third run of the inning.
CRC threatened again in the top of the seventh inning by loading the bases. Imler reached on a fielder's choice to drive in Tanner Davis for the fourth Pioneer run before a strikeout ended the day with the Pioneers falling 15-4.
Bobby Wright tallied two hits in the second game, with six other Pioneers collecting one hit each.
