Pioneer Baseball finally defended the home turf at Pioneer Park earlier this afternoon kickstarting their three-game series against Bacone College. Today's contest was scheduled to be a 9-inning game, but the Pioneers summoned the bats to defeat the Warriors in 7 innings by run rule.
Paragould, Ark.- Today it was a crisp 61 degrees Fahrenheit at Pioneer Park when senior Corby Seib hurled the opening pitch of the series. The Warriors entered today's contest looking for their first season win and showed promise as the three-hole hitter rocketed a 2-run shot to left field off a Seib fastball that was left over the heart of the plate. This momentum didn't last long as Seib gained command of his pitches, not allowing another run until the 6th. CRC scored 13 runs on 10 hits with their first runs crossing the plate in the bottom of the 3rd as Chipper Lamb and Adonis Thomas both doubled to center field scoring 2 RBIs each. The Pioneers rallied their second 4-run inning in the 4th by stringing together 4 hits and 2 walks. Chance Arender and Trey Drake reached base via hits, allowing Matt Parker to double down the left-field line scoring Arender. Phoenix Beal followed up and joined the RBI club by hitting a sac fly to center driving in Drake. JackHenry Glasgow earned a base on balls that scored Parker for the third run, and Adonis Thomas grabbed his third RBI of the game with a sac fly to center field. CRC's next 3 runs came in the 5th as Drake and Parker both crossed the plate with the help of a wild pitch and one passed ball. Lamb used his bat to drive in his third RBI with a single to left field for the 11th run of the contest. Seib did allow his third Warrior run of the game in the top of the 6th as Bacone doubled to left center but the Warriors would be held there as CRC reached the run-rule limit with Trey Gossett singling to right field driving in Arender and Parker stealing home on a passed ball for the second time. Seib retired the side in the top of the 7th by forcing 3 groundouts, ending the game with a CRC win of 13-3.
