Pioneers Split On Day Two

Pioneers Split On Day Two

Pioneers Split On Day Two- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4-1-23

Game one:

Crowley's Ridge- 3

Southwestern Christian- 10

Bethany, OK- Crowley's Ridge entered yesterday's doubleheader in search of their first win in Oklahoma. The Pioneers' play schedule mirrored Friday's as they took on the Eagles of Southwestern in game one. The Eagles bested CRC on Friday with a walk-off hit in the 7th and they again bested CRC Saturday but the second defeat would be a different story. CRC struggled at the plate as the team only collected 2 hits in the contest compared to Friday's 11-hit performance. Though the sticks weren't hot the Pioneers stayed in the game until an Eagle home run in the bottom of the 6th sparked the Southwestern rally that ensured the Pioneers' defeat. Matt Parker took credit for one of CRC's two hits as he singled to start the game for the Pioneers. Trey Drake then laid a sac bunt, setting up Trey Gossett to give the Pioneers a 1-0  lead in the top of the first as he grounded out to shortstop. The Eagles scored 5 runs before CRC's next run came from Phoenix Beal in the top of the fourth. Beal hit a sac fly to right field scoring Chipper Lamb after a tag up from third making the score 2-5. The Pioneers' final run of the game came from the help of a botched play on a ground ball hit by Blake Wilson in the 6th which allowed Gossett to score, but the Eagles rallied a big 4-run inning in the bottom half of the 6th running away with the contest as they defeated CRC 10-3. Chance Arender took the loss tossing 5.0 innings and allowing 6 runs.

Game Two:

Crowley's Ridge- 22

Bacone College- 4

Bethany, OK- Crowley's Ridge saved their biggest game of the weekend for the last matchup as they blew the Warriors out of the water with a 22-4 win. Andrew Brown collected the win from the mound as Crowley's Ridge scored a season-high 22-run. The victory was guaranteed by CRC's season-high 15-hit effort. The Pioneers fell behind the Warriors as Bacone scored 1 run in the bottom of the first but quickly got going on the historic performance by scoring 4 runs in the 2nd and 6 more in the 3rd. The Warriors would slow the Pioneers down over the next two innings holding them still while scraping two across themselves in the 5th, but the Pioneers busted things wide open as they scored 12 runs over the next two innings running away with the last contest of the weekend and securing their first win of the tri-match. Blake Wilson led the Pioneers from the box as the junior hammered out 4 hits in 5 at-bats with two doubles and knocking in 2 runs. Sophomore  Adonis Thomas followed Wilson going 3-5 with two doubles and driving in 3 runs for the Pioneers. Senior Phoenix Beal added 2 hits and also drove in three runs, and sophomore Cannon Baker claimed the last multi-RBI game as he added one hit that drove in 2 Pioneers.
