Pioneers Winless After Opening Day at CAC Showdown- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4/19/24
Pioneer Baseball traveled eastward to Lawrenceville, GA to participate in the CAC showdown hosted at Georgia Gwinnett College over today and tomorrow. After today's doubleheader against Voorhees University and the hosting Grizzlies of GGC, the Pioneers would go winless, falling to both conference opponents.
Game One:
Crowley's Ridge- 5
Voorhees University- 14
Lawrenceville, GA- In game one, CRC would only be stiffed by three total hits by the Tiger's offense but the drastic difference in the contest would be the Tigers' efficiency by scoring fourteen runs off their eleven hits compared to CRC's five runs off eight hits. CRC's opponent scored in five different innings which allowed them to increase their run lead and secure the win over Crowley's Ridge. After trailing 7-0, CRC got on the board with Andrew Brown's two-RBI single down the right field line in the third inning. CRC's next run came in the bottom of the fifth where Kade Lindgren's sacrifice fly made it 13-3 in favor of Voorhees. The Pioneers' last two runs came in the bottom of the seventh where Jackson Imler drew the bases-loaded walk, grabbing an RBI as Carson Carver crossed the plate, and Kenny Nelms stealing home off a passed ball from the Tigers' catcher. Kade Lindgren and Parker Gordon each had two hits in the loss with Lindgren going (2-2) and Gordon going (2-3). Andrew Brown led in RBIs as the senior went (1-3) with two RBIs. Jack Roney took the loss as the Tennessean surrendered seven runs off six hits in 2.1 innings.
Game Two:
Crowley's Ridge- 3
#3 Georgia Gwinnett- 34
Lawrenceville, GA- In game two, the Pioneers were mauled by the hosting #3 ranked Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett College. The Grizzlies belted out eighteen hits off the Pioneer pitching staff en route to their staggering defeat over CRC. The Pioneers snuck three runs passed the Grizzlies' defense with all three runs reaching home in the top of the second where CRC laced together their most profitable inning, scoring their three runs off four hits. After three back-to-back singles from Chance Arender, Kade Lindgren, and Jackson Imler; Kyle Russell drew the bases-loaded walk to score CRC's first run of the game. Parker Gordon followed Russell's at-bat with a deep fly ball to center field, allowing Lindgren to tag up from third and take the 90 feet home before junior Adonis Thomas raked in CRC's final run of the game two batters later with a fourth Pioneer base-hit to the left side of the field. JackHenry Glasgow took the loss for CRC allowing eleven runs (ten earned) off eight hits.
Up Next: CRC baseball will take on Florida National University tomorrow for a single 7-inning contest starting at 10:00 AM CDT, wrapping up their time at the CAC Showdown. #GOPIONEERS
