Pioneers Drop Two in Dallas- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 2/14/25
Game 1
Crowley's Ridge- 4
Dallas Christian- 6
Dallas, TX- Dallas Christian snuck out the two-run win over Crowley's Ridge in game one today, taking advantage of free bases from the Pioneers who put on 7 Crusader batters with 3 walks and 4 HBPs. CRC loaded the bases on two occasions, one in the fifth and one in the seventh, but would only be able to convert two runs from both situations. Both teams performed identically from the box with the Pioneers and Crusaders each rallying off 8 hits. The key separator of the game was the 8 base runners the Pioneers left stranded on the base paths. James Wilson and Rilyn Coleman led the offense with two hits as both Pioneers went 2-3 in the contest. Wilson and Clay Burgess each brought in one RBI. Chance Arender fell to 0-2 on the year, tossing 4.0 innings, surrendering 5 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, walking 2, hitting 2, and fanning 3.
Game 2
Crowley's Ridge- 4
Southwestern Christian- 13
Dallas, TX- Game two saw the Pioneers strike first against Southwestern Christian University before eventually being overrun by the Eagles' offense midway through the contest. Early in the game, the Pioneers claimed the advantage on two occasions as senior Adonis Thomas lifted the Pioneers ahead in the top of the first by hammering his first home run of the season with a towering 2-run shot to left field, and junior Clay Burgess lifting the Pioneers ahead 3-2 by drawing a bases-loaded RBI walk in the top of the third inning. Despairingly, the Eagles' offense roared to life and responded by breaking out a game-deciding 6-run effort in the bottom half of the third, reclaiming the lead from CRC for the final time. Kade Lindgren brought in the final Pioneer run in the top of the sixth with an RBI single up the middle, capping a 4-hit chain from the Pioneers in the inning. Freshman Lawson Graff took the loss, tossing 2.2 innings and surrendering 8 runs off 7 hits, walking 4 and striking out 2. Offensive Leaders were Adonis Thomas 1-4 (HR 2RBI) and Clay Burgess 1-2 (2B RBI BB).
