Mustangs Ride Past Pioneers in AMC Doubleheader- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4/2/26
Central Baptist College took both contests in today's opening doubleheader of the three-game American Midwest Conference series at Pioneer Park. The Mustangs claimed the first contest with a score of 14-4 before snatching the second 17-7 from the Pioneers.
Game One:(7-innings)
Crowley's Ridge- 4
Central Baptist- 14
Paragould, AR- The Mustangs of CBC put together a dominant offensive performance in game one to take the series opener. After a quiet opening inning, the CBC broke through in the second, plating four runs to take early control. They continued to apply pressure with three more runs in the third and added insurance in the fourth before delivering the decisive blow in the sixth inning with a six-run shove that put the game out of reach.
The Pioneers showed brief signs of life offensively, scoring single runs in the second off a Mustangs mishap and again in the seventh inning, off Sophomore Lawson DeVault's RBI double. Sorely, CRC's only crooked number inning would be in the fifth, where the Pioneers scored two off junior Aiden Smith's 5th homer of the season, which rounded off the Pioneers' offensive effort. Crowley's Ridge finished with six hits on the day. Smith led the way for the Pioneers at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. DeVault followed, also going 1-4 with a double and an RBI.
Game Two: (8-innings)
Crowley's Ridge- 7
Central Baptist- 17
Paragould, AR- In game two, the Mustangs jumped ahead early once again and never looked back, kudos to a massive 11-run second inning which proved to be the difference in the contest. Crowley's Ridge showed some fight at the plate, collecting 14 hits, hitting 3 home runs, and scoring in multiple innings, but with the difficulty created in the early game, CRC's impressive offensive bounce back would still fall short.
Lawson DeVault paced the team, going 3-5 with two doubles, a homer, and an RBI. Reece Bariola followed, going 2-4, with a double, a homer, and an RBI. Sophomore Ricky Requena stayed hot at the plate, hitting his third homer of the week to drive in 2 RBIs, going 2-3. Lastly, Junior Rilyn Coleman contributed three hits, going 3-4, with a double in the conference loss.
Up Next: The series will conclude tomorrow with a final 9-inning contest starting at 12:00 PM. #GOPIONEERS
