Pioneers fall in season opener

PARAGOULD, Ark. – Crowley's Ridge College could not hold on to a 12 point halftime lead as they fell to Midway (Ky.) University 85-79 in the Pioneers season opener.

After an impressive first half that saw CRC (0-1) lead by as much as 14 points and shoot 62.5%, the second half pressure defense from Midway (1-1) turned the table. Midway forced 13 second-half turnovers and turned those into 18 points en route to the win.

Midway opened the second half with a 14 to 4 run in the first 5:00 finished off with a dunk by Raekwon Evans to pull the Eagles within two points at the time.

Freshman Braxton Cousins was impressive in his first game as a Pioneer. Cousins scored 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds on the night. Alex Mero added 14 points and Ke Roberson scored 13 points for CRC. Micah Duncan finished with 10 points.

CRC falls to 0-1 in the early season while Midway improves to 1-1 on the year.
