CRC entered tonight's matchup on a two game win streak after defeating Indiana University East and NCAA division three Hendrix College last week. The Pioneers win streak would come to an end with the sound of buzzer as Highway 412 rival slipped past the Pioneers with a 88-84 win.
PARAGOULD, AR - Williams Baptist led by as much as 14 late in the second half, before the Pioneers of Crowley's Ridge College worked their way back and cut the Eagles lead to one point late in the 2nd half with a three from JD Smith. Williams Baptist University survived on four late free throws to seal the 88-84 win.
WBU forced 14 first half CRC turnovers to take a 43-30 lead into the half.
CRC started cutting into the lead during the second half. BJ Johnson cut the lead to 51-40 after a made free throw early in the second half. Johnson followed with a basket on the next possession and the Eagle lead was down to nine.
WBU would push the lead back to 10 with 7:00 to play, before a JD Smith lay up cut the lead to four with 5:06 to play. Bo Roberson made the first free throw to make it 86-84 with eight seconds left, but that was as close as CRC could get.
Braxton Cousins led CRC with 26 points and seven rebounds, Bo Roberson added 21 points on the night. BJ Johnson had 17 points and JD Smith finished with 12 points for the Pioneers.
