Pioneer Golf returned to the green for the final time this season, competing as a full team for the first time this spring, teeing off in the American Midwest Conference Championship today and tomorrow. The championship is slotted for a 54-hole layout, and after today's 36 holes, the Pioneers sit in 8th place overall as a squad, at +115 (259 total strokes).  

Day One Team Standings: 

Melbourne, Ark.- Ending the opening day and pacing the quartet of Pioneers is the program's only hole-in-one holder, freshman Hogan Nelson. Nelson bounced back in the second 18, losing seven strokes from his round-one scorecard to shoot a team low of 79 in round two, jumping the Texan up four slots individually, sharing 30th overall at +21 with teammate Walker Hibbs. Nelson found one birdie each round, birding hole 11 in the first round and hole 17 in the second round.

Hibbs, who led the team after the opening round at +10, was passed by Nelson in the second trip, with Hibbs going backwards by adding one stroke to his game, ending round two with an 83. The senior found one birdie on the day, sinking the shot on hole 4 in round one. Hibbs sits with Nelson at +21 and tied in 30th place. 

Finishing third on the team was freshman Reece Kieffner, who shot identical rounds for the day, nearly mimicking exact hole game-play. Kieffner ended the day with a matching pair of +18 scorecards, finishing the day a "bogey golfer", which lands him +36 and in 39th place overall. 

Rounding off the team is newcomer Ethan Cotter, where the freshman followed closely on the heels of Kieffner, ending round one alongside his teammate at +18.  But with Cotter adding one swing in the second trip, Kieffner edged past him. Cotter sits +37 over par and in 40th place overall.
