Pioneer Golf Concludes 2025 Season- Wil Teague, Sports Inforamtion Director, 5/6/25
Pioneer Golf put a final putt on the 2025 season, closing the year with the final 18 holes at the American Midwest Conference Championship hosted at Coopers Hawk Golf Club in Melbourne, Arkansas. In yesterday's standings, the Pioneers sat in 8th place overall with at +115 (259 total strokes) but would fall to 9th after today's final round. The Pioneers wrapped up their first AMC Tournament +186 (402 total swings).
Day Two Team Standings:
Melbourne, Ark.- Hogan Nelson broke the team's tie, pulling away from senior Walker Hibbs by three strokes to solely lead the team with Nelson shooting an 83 (+11) in the final round. Today's round gave the freshman a total stroke count of 248 (+32) over three rounds, placing him 30th overall in the leaderboard.
Walker Hibbs concluded his collegiate career, settling with a second-place finish for the Pioneers, shooting an 86 (+14) in today's round. The senior found one birdie on the day, birding hole 10. Hibbs wraps up the tournament with a final stroke count of 251 (+35) to take 32nd place individually.
Reece Kieffner stayed in the third slot for the Pioneers, shooting a 92 (+20) in round three. Kieffner collected his first and only birdie of the event in today's effort, matching Hibbs by starting off the back nine on the right note by sinking the birdie on hole 10. Kieffner totaled 272 strokes (+56), placing 39th overall.
Ethan Cotter took the fourth-place finish on the team, shooting a 98 (+26) on today's scorecard, rounding him out to a 279-stroke (+63) tournament total, earning the Missourian 42nd place individually.
During the AMC All-Conference awards, the team had one member recognized as senior Walker Hibbs was named a Champion of Character. The Champion of Character is awarded to a single member of each conference team who demonstrates the 5 core qualities of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership in the classroom and on the course. Congrats, Walker, on this prestigious award.
With the final putt made, Pioneer Golf officially caps the 2025 season, eagerly looking to next year, building off what this season has brought. Though next season will look a bit different as five-year Head Coach Adam Meeker makes his departure from the program, forever leaving his mark behind. From all of Pioneer Athletics, we want to wish Coach Meeker the best of luck in this next chapter of his life and thank him for his dedication and sacrifices to the Pioneer Golf program these past five years.
