PARAGOULD, Ark. - Crowley's Ridge and Lyon (Ark.) College met for a sunny Monday afternoon doubleheader where the visiting Scots took both games, first with a 4-2 final followed by a 10-2 Lyon victory.
GAME ONE
Lyon - 4
Crowley's Ridge - 2
Crowley's Ridge (9-12) and Lyon (6-21) waited until the final scheduled inning to score as CRC starter Sammi Henry (SR/Marmaduke, Ark.) and her Scot counterpart, Olivia Floyd traded punches in a pitcher's duel. The Scots pounded out 14 hits but left 10 runners stranded during the game.
Back-to-back doubles in the top of the seventh inning gave the Scots their first lead of the game, followed by a flurry of hits as Lyon plated four runs in the seven-hit inning.
Sensing the excitement, the CRC bats stirred with Aubrey Jackson (SO/Glen Rose, Ark.) and Eden Hernandez (SR/McAllen, Texas) collecting singles, sandwiched by April Kennedy (JR/Marmaduke, Ark.) reaching on a fielder's choice that saw Hannah Powell (SR/Piggott, Ark.) reach second and disrupting a double-play. Kaitlyn Stebelton (SR/Crosby, Texas) hammered a two-run double to deep right field to cut into the Scot lead. While a wild pitch saw Stebelton standing on third with the tying run in Bre'Anna Warren (SR/Forrest City, Ark.) at the plate. Warren's appearance marked her 385th career at-bat, making her first all-time in at-bats.
Eden Hernandez earned two hits for the Pioneers, while Stebelton's two RBIs led the team.
GAME TWO
Lyon - 10
Crowley's Ridge - 2
A four-run second inning by the Scots (7-21) coupled with a one-hit complete game from Lyon starter McKenzie Campbell vaulted the visitors to a game two win. The highlight of game two came in the form of Lyon's Kortanie Ruhland going a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate.
Crowley's Ridge (9-14) earned their two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hannah Powell wrapped around to score on a wild throw from Lyon's Campbell. A double steal from April Kennedy and Madyson McDermott (SR/Charleston, Mo.) saw the latter touching home for the second and final run for CRC.
Rachel Russell (SR/Russellville, Ark.)'s leadoff single in the second inning spoiled what would have been a no-hitter for Campbell.
Adrienne Stucker (SO/Poplar Bluff, Mo.) picked up the loss, being chased after two innings of work. Summer Maxwell (SR/Forrest City, Ark.) pitched the final four innings in relief which included a fun matchup in the fourth inning. Maxwell's younger sister, Autumn Maxwell, entered as a pinch-hitter for the Scots. The elder Maxwell won the battle as a pop-out ended the inning.
