St. Louis – A big fifth inning from the Lady Pioneers was answered with a bigger inning from the hosting University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (Mo.) Eutectics. The first game saw the Euts collect a 10-8 victory before trouncing the Lady 'Neers 8-0 in game two.
Game One
Crowley's Ridge – 8
UHSP – 10
The Eutectics (1-0, 0-0 AMC) were spotted an early 4-0 lead moving into the top of the fourth inning.
Three consecutive walks for the Lady Pioneers (4-7, 0-2 CAC) sent up the speedy Shelby Elrod to the plate who quickly cleared the bases with a triple to left field. Lacey Lambright-Southern would plate Elrod with a two-out single before an outfield error by the Eutectics allowed the fifth Lady 'Neer run on the inning to score.
Sending on Maddie Reed (0-2) in the bottom of the fourth, the Eutectics managed to tally six runs off of three hits while taking advantage of one error to hold a 10-5 lead.
The girls in green would answer in the top of the sixth inning when Lambright-Southern's singal plated Elrod. In the last chance half-inning for CRC, Elrod singled home Brooklyn Melson, then a double-steal allowed Layne Tedder to score before a UHSP strikeout ended the comeback bid for the Lady 'Neers.
Elrod was a force at the dish, going 3-3 while driving in four runs. Lambright-Southern was hot on her heels, having a 3-3 day of her own while driving on two.
Game Two
Crowley's Ridge – 0
UHSP – 8
Game two was all UHSP (2-0, 0-0 AMC) who tallied runs in each of the first four innings, before ending the game prematurely with a four-run fifth inning.
Shelby Elrod (2-3) was in the circle for Crowley's Ridge (4-8, 0-2 CAC), striking out three batters in the loss. Dru Bryant, April Kennedy, and Maddie Reed collected the only hits for the Lady Pioneers.
