COLUMBIA, Mo. – Less than 48 hours after wrapping up a four-game weekend, Crowley's Ridge softball continues to make up for lost games by competing in the first day of back-to-back away doubleheaders. The Lady Pioneers fell in both games to the Stephens (Mo.) College Stars on Monday, first in a 5-4 decision before dropping game two 9-1 in five innings.

Game One

Crowley's Ridge – 4

Stephens – 5

Crowley's Ridge (7-16, 0-2 CAC) were off to a quick start with Shelby Elrod leading off proceedings with a single into centerfield. The speedy junior would tap home plate three batters later when Rachel Russell beat out a throw from the pitcher for an RBI single.

Stephens (6-13, 2-4 AMC) showed patience at the plate, drawing four walks in the contest, with the first being the Stars' leadoff hitter. The walks continued to hurt the Lady 'Neers when the Stars drew a bases-loaded free pass to tie the game at 1-1.

Elrod continued to see the ball well, blasting an RBI double with two outs in the top of the second inning to score Maddie Reed. The Stars answered right back with a two-run second inning to take a lead.

The Lady Pioneers would battle back in the fourth frame when Dru Bryant's single brought home both McKenzie Crofford (running for Bailey Jones's leadoff single) and Elrod.

In the circle, Elrod (4-8) gave up back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the fifth inning that scored a pair of runs for the Stars that Crowley's Ridge could not overcome.

The girls in green were led by Elrod, Reed, and Russell who each tallied two hits.

Game Two

Crowley's Ridge – 1

Stephens – 9

With fatigue setting in, the Lady Pioneers (7-17, 0-2 CAC) managed only two hits in the second game of the day.

On the other side of the field, Stephens (7-13, 2-4 AMC) scored runs in every inning minus the second to pound out 10 total hits including a leadoff triple.

Halea Wells (2-6) was charged with the loss in the start for Coach Malone's Lady Pioneers, with Abby Ewing pitching in relief. MaCayla Henry tossed the first pitches of her career in the bottom of the fifth inning.
