BATESVILLE, Ark. – For the first time in more than a week, Crowley's Ridge College softball returned to the diamond against Lyon (Ark.) College. The Lady Pioneers dropped game one to the Scots 3-0 before the hosts ended game two in five innings with a 9-1 final.
GAME ONE
Crowley's Ridge – 0
Lyon – 3
Crowley's Ridge (10-27, 1-5 CAC) was at the plate for a dominant pitching performance from the Lyon (10-21, 9-7 AMC) staff who recorded 11 strikeouts in the shutout win.
Kylie Cox was a bright spot for the girls in green, going 2-for-3 from the plate, while Lacey Lambright-Southern added the Lady 'Neers third and final base knock.
Shelby Elrod (6-13) got the start for Crowley's Ridge, striking out one while allowing just five hits in the pitcher's duel.
GAME TWO (5 inns.)
Crowley's Ridge – 1
Lyon – 9
Game two was less kind to the Lady Pioneers (10-28, 1-5 CAC) despite a great start. Shelby Elrod showed off her wheels by leading off the nightcap with a single before stealing her way around the bases. Elrod swiped both second and third, placing the leadoff run at third with no outs. A quick pair of strikeouts led Elrod to put her fate in her own hands, successfully stealing home to give the Lady Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
Lyon (11-21, 9-7 AMC) would answer in the bottom of the first before exploding with a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning. The Scots would add two more runs in the third frame to take a 7-1 lead.
Starter Abby Ewing (2-4) pitched 2 1/3 innings in the loss including a strikeout. A pair of doubles from the Scots in the bottom of the fifth inning would wrap up affairs by plating two runs to see Lyon win 9-1.
Dru Bryant was a perfect 2-2 from the plate, with Elrod and Jocelyn Villareal adding one single each to tally CRC's four hits.
