Pioneer Softball Swept by #15 Missouri Baptist Spartans- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4/12/25
Pioneer Softball (13-19 & 4-8 AMC) faced two losses on their home field to the #15 Lady Spartans of Missouri Baptist University (32-6 & 14-2 AMC).
Game 1
Crowley's Ridge- 1
Missouri Baptist University- 7
Paragould, Ark.- In the opening game, the Pioneers mustered 6 hits as a squad but were only able to push 1 run across the plate with senior Kourtni Jagneaux scoring sophomore Hadlee DeFries in the bottom of the first with an RBI single up the middle; meanwhile the No.15 Spartans pushed 7 runs across the plate off 9 base knocks, scoring runs in the first, second, third, and fifth innings. Junior Karsen Overshine shined for the Pioneers, with the utility player leading the offense, going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles in the loss. Jagneaux, DeFries, and Lilly Wessel claimed the other 3 remaining Pioneer hits. Natalie Brightwell fell to 6-5 on the year, with the junior taking the loss, allowing 7 runs off 9 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1 in 5.0 innings of work.
Game 2
Crowley's Ridge- 0
Missouri Baptist University- 7
Paragould, Ark.- No.15 Missouri Baptist shut out the Pioneers in game two, limiting CRC to 3 hits in the contest, while hammering out 16 base hits and scoring 7 runs to sweep the Pioneers at home. Hadlee DeFries, Bailey Cupples, and Karsen Overshine each singled in the setback contest. Ava Jessup took the loss with the Louisiana native tossing 6.2 innings from inside the circle.
Up Next: The Lady Pioneers will see one day's rest before traveling to St. Louis, MO on Monday, April 14th, for a conference doubleheader vs Harris-Stowe State University. #GOPIONEERS
