The Lady Pioneers (18-22 & 9-11 AMC) split with the (17-31 & 9-11) Stars of Stephens College, returning the favor with a game two walkoff single, capping the Lady Pioneers Senior Day, after being walked off by the Stars in extra frames in the opening contest.
Game 1 (11-Innings)
Crowley's Ridge- 3
Stephens College- 4
Paragould, Ark.- Game one would end in heartbreak after 11 innings of action with the Stars outlasting the Pioneers 4-3, pushing two runs to the plate to break the stalemate in the top of the 11th. For six innings, senior Halea Wells and the Lady Pioneers led the Stars 2-0 with the RHP executing from inside the circle, holding the Stars answerless, and Karsen Overshine and Jocelyn Villarreal scoring off Star errors in the second and third innings. Stephens broke their silence by taking advantage of two Pioneer errors in the 7th frame, helping them tie the contest to force extra frames. Like clockwork, the game returned to a stalemate over the next four innings with each team sneaking out of jams and leaving runners stranded, until the Stars linked two hits together in the top of the 11th, scoring two runs to reclaim the advantage. In the bottom frame of the inning, the Pioneers challenged the Stars, pushing one run across the plate with Kourtni Jagneaux scoring Karsen Overshine with a sac fly to centerfield, but cruelly, the rally would end with the Stars collecting the final two outs, leaving the tying run stranded on base. Jagneaux, Hadlee DeFries, and Bailey Cupples each had one hit in the defeat. Halea Wells earned the no-decision, allowing 2 runs (0 earned) off 9 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2 in 7.0 innings. Ava Jessup took the loss, with the Louisiana native surrendering 2 runs (1 earned) off 3 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 1 over 4.0 innings.
Game 2
Crowley's Ridge- 4
Stephens College- 3
Paragould, Ark.- In game two, the Stars would again stick with the Lady Pioneers, forcing the contest to trickle down to the wire to decide a winner. In the contest, the Lady Pioneers trailed the Stars 3-0 until the Pioneers pushed two runs to the plate in the bottom of the fifth with freshman Maddie Burris crossing the plate for the Pioneers' first run of the game, off a Stars fielding error, and senior Bailey Cupples knocking in the team's first RBI with a hot shot to the gap in right center, scoring Hadlee DeFries. Painfully, the Stars' defense would stand firm, holding the Pioneers at bay by one run, forcing them to enter the final frame trailing 2-3. Entering the bottom of the 7th, with their last three outs being the only thing standing between CRC and a senior day upset, in this go-round, the Lady Pioneers would pull out the win and walk off the contest with a 2-RBI single. With runners on the corners and two outs on the board, senior Kourtni Jagneaux would deliver the timely hit for Crowley's Ridge as Jagneaux barreled a ball down the right field line, scoring Jordan Janak and pinch runner Bailee Maybin to win the game, 4-3. The Lady Pioneers rallied with 9 hits as a team. Jagneaux and Bailey Cupples led the effort with 2 hits in the win. Senior Natalie Brightwell earned her 7th win of the season in a complete game performance, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) off 10 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4 in 7.0 innings.
Up Next: The Lady Pioneers will host Williams Baptist University in the 2025 regular season finale, on Tuesday, April 22nd at Pioneer Park for a final conference doubleheader. #GOPIONEERS
