Pioneer Softball at Stars and Stripes Classic

Pioneer Softball at Stars and Stripes Classic- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 3/10/26

Game One:

Crowley's Ridge- 1

Dakota State- 4

Branson, MO- Pioneer softball was bested in the opening contest at the Stars and Stripes Classic in Branson, MO, with the Trojans of Dakota State taking the contest 4-1 over the Pioneers. CRC rallied 6 hits in the game while the Dakotans mustered 7. A big difference-maker was the Trojans executing hits in pivotal positions to get runners to the plate. Senior Lilly Wessel was responsible for the Pioneers' sole run in the matchup with the Missourian, bashing her third homer of the season to left center in the top of the 7th. Aimee Buckley and Hailey Tarrants led the offense with 2-3 performances. Buckley took the loss, allowing 4 runs off 7 hits while walking 1 and striking out 5 in 6.0 innings.

Game Two:

Crowley's Ridge- 5

Missouri Valley- 7

Branson, MO-  Missouri Valley College would also suspend the Pioneers from emerging victorious in the classic, fending off the Pioneers with a two-run win in game two. Crowley's Ridge picked up the pace offensively, upping their team hits to 8 and pushing 5 runners to the plate, which was highlighted by a massive bottom of the third where the Pioneers scored 4 runs off 4 hits to eliminate the Vikings' run-deficit. Painfully, with three Pioneer mishaps in the game, the Vikings would regain the lead again by scoring two runs in the 6th and another in the 7th. At the same time, CRC would only be able to summon a sole run in response to Missouri Valley, as a Carrie Anna Davis groundout, scoring Lauren Jones in the bottom of the 6th, would cap the Pioneers' run total in the contest. Jada Diaz led the offense, going 2-2 with a double and a walk.  Lauren Jones went the distance for the Pioneers, windmilling all 7.0 innings, allowing 7 runs (3 earned) off 10 hits with 1 strikeout in the loss.

Up Next: Pioneer Softball will stay on the road to take on the Scots of Lyon College on Friday, March 13th, in Batesville, AR, for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
