Pioneers Drop Doubleheader to Mustangs-Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 3/28/26
Game One:
Crowley's Ridge College- 2
Central Baptist College- 3
Conway, AR- An American Midwest Conference win slipped the Pioneers' grasp in game one of the conference doubleheader with the Mustangs of CBC edging CRC 3-2 in the pitchers' duel matchup. Sophomore windmiller Aimee Buckley went the distance for Crowley's Ridge with the Mississippi native, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) off 6 hits over 6.0 innings. The Mustangs took a three-run lead with single runs in the first three innings before the Pioneers rallied and were able to shut out CBC from scoring, leaving seven additional Mustangs stranded on base over the next four frames. Senior Lilly Wessel led the offense, going 2-3 with a double and solo homer, which broke the Pioneers' goose egg in the top of the fourth. Jada Diaz exploited a Mustang's error in the fifth to take home on a throwing error, but these two runs are the only ones CBC would allow, holding onto their one-run lead for the win.
Game Two: (5-innings)
Crowley's Ridge-1
Central Baptist College- 10
Conway, AR- Central Baptist College linked more things together in game two, defeating the Pioneers via run rule, piecing together a 12-hit effort on the Pioneer pitching staff. CBC pushed all 10 of their runs to the plate before CRC responded with their sole run of the matchup in the top of the fifth. Freshman Carrie Anna Davis crossed the plate off Sophomore Maddie Burris' RBI single up the middle to give the Pioneers their one run of the contest. The Pioneers totaled 6 hits in the game, and were led by Junior Jada Diaz, who was 3-3 with two doubles. Burris followed with her 2-3 day with an RBI. Cloey Miller suffered the loss, allowing 6 runs off 6 hits in 3.0 innings from the circle.
Up Next: The Pioneers will host Lane College this Tuesday, March 31st, in a non-conference doubleheader at Pioneer Park, starting at 2:00 PM. #GOPIONEERS
