Third Quarter Woes Lead to Lady Pioneer Loss

HOLLY SPRINGS, MS - After a competitive first half, the Lady Pioneers struggled to put points on the board in the third quarter and could not bounce back in a 65-48 loss at Rust College Thursday night.

The first half proved to be an even match up where neither team led by more than six points. Seniors Emily Eaker and Chelsie Spence led the offensive attack with hot shooting from behind the arc. The Lady Pioneers went into halftime only trailing by three points.

The third quarter was a different story. The Lady Bearcats opened the half on a 13-0 run before Alexus Taylor hit a three-point bucket at the 4:38 minute mark. CRC would try to claw their way back, but Rust had an answer on each end of the court.

Crowley's Ridge shot much better from the free throw line (85.7%), but they committed too many turnovers. Rust took advantage and converted 27 points off those turnovers.

Lisa Crawford led Rust College with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

The Lady Pioneers were led by Alexus Taylor with 13 points. Emily Eaker added 11 points and Elly Burrell contributed nine points and 12 rebounds.

Crowley's Ridge will continue their Mississippi road trip and face off against Tougaloo on Saturday.
