Lady Pioneers Fall in Season Opener

PARAGOULD, Ark. – A close game until the final minutes, Crowley's Ridge College dropped their season opener to Ecclesia (Ark.) College 76-70 on Tuesday.

Back-to-back buckets by senior Octavia Lowery pushed the Lady Pioneers (0-1) to a 21-17 lead after the opening quarter.

The Lady Royals (3-1) would bounce back in the second quarter to head to the break with a 35-35 tie.

The third quarter saw the teams knot up the game with three different ties, ending with a 48-46 advantage for Crowley's Ridge

With a combined 52 points, the final quarter was full of fireworks. Leading by as many as six, the Lady Pioneers saw the Lady Royals chip away at their lead until tying the game at 57-57. From there, the guests did not relinquish the lead until the final buzzer with a 76-70 final in favor of Ecclesia.

Four Lady 'Neers bucketed double-digit points, led by Octavia Lowery's 18. Junior Hannah Cunningham chipped in with 10 points. In their first collegiate career game Kianna Hardaway, and Travia Woodruff collected 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The Lady Pioneers pack up and leave for Montgomery, Ala. where they will participate in the Christian College Classic hosted by Faulkner (Ala.) University. The Lady 'Neers will tip-off Thursday against Faulkner at a time to be determined.
