PARAGOULD, Ark. – Down by 12 points in the fourth quarter, the Crowley's Ridge Lady Pioneers fought back to take a lead with three minutes remaining in Tuesday night's contest against the Baptist Bible College (Mo.) Patriots. The girls in green ran out of gas as the visiting Patriots held on for a 77-70 win.
A close game wire-to-wire, Crowley's Ridge (4-5) found themselves out-rebounded 17-7 in the opening quarter of play. Baptist Bible (2-5) was forced into the paint by the Lady Pioneers, who held the Patriots to a 1-9 mark from long range in the first quarter. BBC held a one-point advantage ahead 15-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Madison Sellars found her stride in the second quarter, bucketing nine of her 20 points in the quarter. Two points separated Pioneers and Patriots, with Baptist Bible ahead 34-32.
Returning to action for the first time in the 2021-22 season, sophomore Travia Woodruff picked up where she left off, dishing out three of her five assists in the third quarter. Down by six points after the first three quarters, the Lady Pioneers looked to bounce back in the final 10 minutes trailing 56-50.
Slow the get going in the final quarter, CRC was held scoreless the first 2:13 while BBC scored six unanswered to take a 62-50 lead. Slowly, Crowley's Ridge climbed back to eventually take a 67-65 lead off of a Lotti Hoffman layup with 3:23 remaining. Baptist Bible would force four costly turnovers that proved fatal as CRC took a 77-70 loss.
Sellars led the Pioneer charge with 20 points, followed by Lotti Hoffman's 16 and Lindsey Browning's 13-point efforts. Browning pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Woodruff led the team with five assists in her season debut.
