Lady Pioneers Fall Short To Highway Rival- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 11-3-22
Crowley's Ridge Lady Pioneers hosted Highway 412 rivals, Williams Baptist University, tonight in their second game of the season. Crowley's Ridge would tie the game at half and even take the lead in the third but fall by two with a final score of 84-82.
Quarter one, with so much anticipation in the matchup between these two teams, the energy would not disappoint. WBU started the game in a man to man forcing the Pioneer offense to work hard and efficiently for every opportunity. Junior Lindsey Browning would begin her night by bucketing 4 points, leading the Pioneers in the quarter. A stout Eagle rebounding effort would give them the lead 20-10 after out rebounding the Pioneers 14-6 in the first quarter.
Quarter two, WBU would try to pull away with a score of 31-20, that is until freshmen Reigiana Ward would link 6 points together for the Pioneers cutting the deficit to 27-31. Senior Octavia Lowery would then make her entrance. Lowery entered the game at the end of the first quarter by bucking her first points of the game right before the buzzer. In the Second quarter the senior produced 10 points in a crucial time for the Pioneers including an "and 1" to make things even 31-31 before the half. CRC would end the half with an 11-0 run.
Quarter three, Crowley's Ridge would keep the momentum they had before the half extending their run to 15-1. Junior Lindsey Browning scored the first 4 points for the Pioneers in the quarter and hit a critical free throw after a foul. This play gave the Lady Pioneers the lead in the matchup, 40-39. CRC would not hold this lead as WBU battled back, retaking it by the end of the quarter with a score of 60-55.
Quarter four, with the game on the line Crowley's Ridge College produced their best quarter of the night with a team effort of 27 points on a 64.7 field goal percentage. Junior Browning and freshmen Hunter Gibson would produce 10 points each giving energy and hope to CRC. Senior Octavia Lowery would bring the game within 1, 80-81, but WBU would get the win with a final score of 84-82.
Leaders:
Lindsey Browning ended the night with a double double, 14 rebounds and 24 points. Octavia Lowery chased with 23 points on 9 shot attempts. Hunter Gibson finished with 18 points for the Pioneers. Reigiana Ward ended with 8 assists.
