Pioneers Outlasted by Ambassadors- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 11-20-22
Crowley's Ridge Women's Basketball hit the road for their first overnight trip of the season on Friday, November the 18th to travel to Huntsville, Alabama. There, the Lady Pioneers would take on the Lady Ambassadors of Oakwood University Saturday, November the 19th. The Lady Pioneers, on a two game win streak, shot a season low field goal percentage in the matchup, this performance would doom the Pioneers in a one point defeat, snapping the streak in a 47-48 loss to OakWood University.
Quarter one, CRC would give the Lady Ambassadors some freebies by producing three turnovers early on. CRC's defense picked up the slack and ended the first quarter of play, trailing by just three after a buzzer-beating layup by Oakwood set them ahead 14-11. Freshmen Brinley Morgan and Sierrah Floyd both found the basket from behind the arc, leading the offense with three points each.
Quarter two, a 6-2 run by the Lady Ambassadors would force a CRC timeout with 5:21 left before the break. When play resumed it would be N'Kyah Edwards who would lead the Pioneers in points. The Sophomore entered off the bench and produced a respectable 4 points. This pressure of her first bucket would force a timeout by the Lady Ambassadors with 2:51 with a 22-18 lead over CRC. Edwards would tie the game herself ,24-24, right before halftime with a steal and layup as the clock expired.
Quarter three, no team would retake the lead until after almost 4 minutes of game time passed. At the 6:01 mark in the quarter, Oakwood University took a 25-24 lead after sinking one from the charity stripe. Freshman Hunter Gibson would be the lone scorer this quarter for the Pioneers as she mustered 4 points cutting the deficit to 8, as Crowley's Ridge rolled into the final quarter down 28-36.
Quarter four, the team in green saved the best for last. The Lady 'Neers posted their highest field goal percentage, and produced a team high 19 points in the quarter. CRC trailed over half of the final quarter until Brinley Morgan hit 3 free throws to bring the score within one, 44-45, at the 4:09 mark. With 3:40 left in the contest, Strawberry, Arkansas native, Mickayla Smith nailed a three ball which gave the Lady Pioneers what they were looking for, a 47-45 lead. The Lady Ambassadors would tie the game, but a final free throw would be the downfall for the Pioneers as they fell 47-48.
Leaders:
Hunter Gibson led the Pioneers with a double double. Gibson posted 11 points and 13 rebounds with five assists. Brinley Morgan finished with 9 points in the contest. The Pioneer bench combined for 20 points at the end of the night.

CRC takes a break for the Thanksgiving Holiday, but resumes action on Saturday, December 3rd at home in the Carter Activities Center against Greenville University at 2:00pm.
