Bobcats Best Pioneers- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 2-4-23
Women's Basketball entered into today's contest coming into a similar situation as yesterday's. The Pioneers were once again rematching a team that they had previously fallen to in Espanola, NM. The Bobcats, from College of the Ozarks, defeated the Pioneers in their first matchup on the court by a 15-point spread, 69-54. In round two, the Pioneers would improve their game, but a late 2nd half push from the Bobcats allowed them to run away with the game and the victory once more against CRC.
Paragould, Ark.- The Pioneers kept things close in the first 5 minutes of the game, always answering CofO's buckets with their own. It would be at the 5:21 mark when the Bobcats completed their 8-0 run climbing ahead of CRC 13-4. Travia Woodruff and Bringley Morgan would draw the foul and each step to the charity strip cutting down the deficit to three, 17-14 with 1:54 to go in the quarter. Unfortunately, the Pioneers would not grab another bucket before the buzzer as CofO went on a 5-0 run ending the quarter up 22-14. CRC mustered their biggest quarter of the game with 21 points, outscoring the Bobcats with 16 points. What truly brought the Pioneers back in the game were back-to-back threes from Sierrah Floyd and Octavia Lowery cutting the deficit to 5, and just before the half Travia Woodruff drew the foul and sank both free throws. Pioneers entered the break down 3, 38-35. When play continued, the Bobcats came alive from behind the arc as they scored half of the total three-balls on the night in this quarter. But in the last two minutes, the Pioneers switched roles on the Bobcats, keeping them scoreless and going on a run of their own. Hunter Gibson hit a three at the 1:47 mark to get things rolling. Linsey Browning followed with a layup while Travia Woodruff nailed a shot from beyond the arc. To put the icing on the cake of what would be a 10-0 run, Octavia Lowery scored on a breakaway right before the buzzer. The Pioneers trail the Bobcats 59-51. In the last quarter, both teams would have their lowest performance on the scoreboard but the Bobcats were still able to slide across just enough to get the better half of CRC. The Pioneers fall 74-62.
