Women's Basketball hosted the Patriots of Baptist Bible College last night in the Carter Activites Center. The Pioneers, claiming their first win of February earlier this week on Tuesday against Welch College, looked to increase their win streak against the Patriots. A sloth-like start for the Pioneers would leave spectators uneasy but a halftime turnaround allowed the Pioneers to cruise to a 71-49 point victory.
Paragould, Ark.- As the game opened up both teams would depend on the bulk of their points to come from inside the paint. The Pioneers would pull ahead by as much as nine points midway through the quarter with Reigiana Ward driving to the basket and claiming the layup. What stumped the Pioneers was a three minute scoring drought that allowed the Patriots to chip back and end the quarter down 4. The Pioneers lead 16-12. In Quarter two, Baptist Bible would outscore the Pioneers, and even retake the lead at the 4:53 mark with a three point shot, 24-22. What gave CRC a burst of energy and the ability to reclaim the lead heading into the break was Alayzah Foster entering the game from the bench and bucketing 7 points for Pioneers. CRC enters halftime up 31-29. When play resumed the Pioneers entered a crucial quarter. With the slightest bit of momentum on their side, Crowley's Ridge decided it was time to tip the scale. CRC busted out a 10-0 run credited to Octavia Lowery and Travia Woodruff. The rest of the team joined in and they outscored the Patriots 24-8 in the quarter. With the lead reclaimed with an outstanding 18 point lead heading into the last 10 minutes of play, the Pioneers sailed their way to a 22 point win, 71-49 over Baptist Bible.
Leaders:
Octavia Lowery led the Pioneers with a double- double performance of 17 points and 13 rebounds. Alayzah Foster followed with 15 points.
