Golf Competes in FHU Fall Invitational
Golf Competes in FHU Fall Invitational- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 9/28/22
Crowley's Ridge Golf traveled to Hendersn, TN this past Monday and Tuesday to compete in Freed- Hardeman University's Fall Invitational. This marks the second match the Pioneer golfers have hit the green this season. Maddie Minyard again traveled and competed in the Women's individual bracket. The men's team would place 10th overall.
Senior Isaac Langley led the Pioneers in both days of action. The Piggott, Ark. native gathered two birdies on the back nine in the opening round on holes 10 and 13. He would end the first day of play making par or better on all but 4 holes. Langley would see a tougher second day on the course as he would not be able to summon any birdies. He would run into a bump on hole 10, and would add 9 strokes overall to his score landing him tied for 23rd.
Andrew Lee would follow Langley finishing second for the Pioneers. The senior from Russellville, Ark. would find 4 birdies on the first day of play. Three would come on the front nine, holes 3, 5, and 9 with the fourth coming in at hole 13 on the back side. Day two Lee would bicker on back to back holes number 13 and 14 before ending the round. He would add 9 strokes to his game. Lee would end the tournament 36th overall.
Coming in third for the Pioneers would be freshmen Joseph Ramsey. After finishing in third place for the Pioneers in the WBU Fall Invitational, Ramsey seemed to keep things the same. Day one of action Ramsey fought to find the groove of his game. He would gather 6 pars over the day, sinking three on the front nine and three on the back. Day two, the freshman would only find 5 pars and would add two strokes to his game placing him tied for 56th.
Sophomore Creston Sweet would chase Ramsey but would end in fourth for the team. Sweet ended day one with 4 pars. He would make two on the front nine and two on the back nine. Day two Sweet would recover by making par on 10 holes for the day, shaving 6 strokes off his game placing him 60th overall.
Junior Matthew Crabrtree would bring up the back for the Pioneers. Crabtree parred 4 holes on the front nine of day one but would be challenged on the back nine not being able to find a rhythm. Day two would seem better for the Jonesboro native as he would par 5 holes in the match, shaving one stroke off his score placing him 63rd overall.
Freshman Maddie Minyard traveled with the men's team to compete as our lone female Pioneer golfer. Minyard stepped on to the green competing as an individual in the Womens FHU Fall Invitational division for Crowley's Ridge College. On day two, Minyard doubled her par performance from day one of play and even recorded her first career birdie, sinking it right off the bat on a difficult hole number 2. With this turnaround, she would shave 7 strokes off her total placing her 53rd overall.
