Pioneer Golf Ends Sixth Overall in WBU Spring Invitational

Pioneer Golf Ends Sixth Overall in WBU Spring Invitational- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4/2/24

Pioneer Golf wrapped up their time in Mountain Home, AR at "Battle at Big Creek" ending the Invitational in the same overall position from their day one effort. The men's team shot (+55) over par in the thirty-six-hole event placing them sixth overall.

Mountain Home, AR-  After a season's best opening round effort by the men's team with four Pioneers in the 70s, today's final eighteen had a different result as CRC men's golf had all but lone senior Creston Sweet add stokes to their game. Isaac Lagley jumped the team's leaderboard to finish first in the invitational. Langley added three strokes to his game but with his (+3) day-one finish, the senior only dropped one spot and ended 14th overall. Freshman Denton Reiley crossed second for the team as the young Pioneer picked up six more strokes from yesterday's score. Reiley's (+10) over both days lands him down six places from yesterday and in 16th overall in his third college invitational. Golf is a game about consistency and senior Creston Sweet proved it by shooting a second consecutive day of (+6) over par. Sweet ends his final WBU invitational (+12) over par and up one spot for a 21st overall finish. Junior Walker Hibbs had the roughest day on the green as the Walnut Ridge native tallied up thirteen more strokes on day two. The junior ended the invitational (+27) over par and down five slots for a 30th overall finish. Matt Crabtree again shot a full round as CRC's alternate golfer. Crabtree ended on the same wave as Sweet by shooting the same as day one ending (+34) over par and 33rd overall.

Women's Golf:

Maddie Minyard was the sole Lady Pioneer to finish the invitational for the women's team. Minyard didn't change her play style as the sophomore shot a second round of (+19) over par.  The sophomore's consistency paid off as it bumped her up one spot individually placing her 17th overall.

Up Next: CRC Golf will take a couple of weeks off and prepare for the CAC invitational hosted at the Paragould Country Club on April 28th-29th. #GOPIONEERS
