Pioneer Volleyball (AMC) fell to (0-6) on the season, dropping a hard-fought 4-set contest against Avila University (KCAC) before then falling to Haskell Indian Nations University (CAC) in a heartbreaking 5-set match.
Game 1: CRC vs Avila University (25-23 AU, 25-20 AU, 22-25 CRC, and 30-28 AU)
Kansas City, MO- In the afternoon's opening game vs Avila University, the Eagles took a quick advantage over the Pioneers, which helped propel them to a four-set win. Avalia squeaked by with a two-point difference in the opening set before extending their lead through a consecutive win, defeating the Pioneers via a 5-point spread in set number two. CRC sparked a three-set win to fend off the road sweep defeat from the Eagles with a critical 25-22 set win, but would eventually succumb to the Eagles' high ground, with Avalia clawing out a 30-28 extra frame win to seal the match.
Game 2: CRC vs Haskell (27-25 HINU, 25-19 HINU, 18-25 CRC, 22-25 CRC, and 15-9 HINU
Lawrence, KS- In today's second match-up, the Pioneers' endurance was put to the max with the contest going the distance of a full 5 sets for the first time this season. Excruciatingly, the Pioneers would fall just short of claiming their first win of the year, narrowly losing the reverse sweep over Haskell Indian Nation University as they fell in the decisive fifth set. After dropping sets one and two, the Lady Pioneers rallied together in unison to stand off the Indians with crucial third and fourth set wins, but with HINU executing at the perfect time, catching a late game rally of three straight points, Haskell would survive and pull out the home win against the Pioneers.
