Wichita, KS- The Pioneers faced early heartbreak in the weekend's opening matchup at the Friends University Classic, with the hosting Falcons completing the reverse sweep on the Pioneers and leaving CRC still in search of the season's first win. In tonight's contest, CRC dominated the first two sets, bursting out with an opening 11-kill effort on a .250 hitting percentage before upping it in set two with a 15-kill effort on a .243 hitting percentage and taking things to match point for the second time this season. Though trailing, the Falcons wouldn't waive the white flag when the Pioneers pushed the attack in search of ending the matchup in sweep fashion; instead, the squad kicked things into overdrive and rallied off 36 kills on the Pioneers over the next two sets, fending off the Pioneer charge and forcing a fifth set. Chillingly, for the second contest in a row, the Pioneers would be on the losing end of the stick in the make-or-break set as the Falcons rallied off their fifth double-digit kill frame of the evening, finishing the comeback win by landing 10 kills on the hardwood.
Offensively, the Pioneers totaled 53 kills on a .210 hitting percentage while mustering three double-digit kill efforts as a squad with 11 in the first set, 15 in the second, and 14 in the third. Amiyah Saxton led the attack with 14 kills. Jillian Glasgow recorded a triple-double on the evening, following teammate Saxton with 12 kills, 21 assists, and 13 digs. Junior Mallory Hollis led the team defensively with 23 digs. Maddie Burris added 19 assists, and Alyssa Dirden peaked 10 digs in the loss. The Pioneers fall to (0-7) on the year.
Up Next: CRC looks to grab their first win of the year tomorrow, at 10:00 AM vs Hesston College. #GOPIONEERS
