Paragould, Ark.- The Lady Pioneers improved to (2-0) in the American Midwest Conference, upsetting the No. 2 preseason-seeded Stephens College Stars in five thrilling sets tonight in the Carter Activities Center. Both teams swapped licks on the evening with a back-and-forth outcome in each set before the Pioneers double-dipped, winning the fourth and the make-or-break fifth set. Crowley's Ridge had three sets see double-digit kill efforts, but the team manufactured a powerful, season-high 18 kills in set two in response to a 10-point spread loss to the Stars in the opening frame. Thankfully, with the ups and downs of the evening, the Pioneers found rhythm as a team when they needed it, pulling together to defeat the Stars and remain undefeated in AMC play.

Three Pioneers led in double-digit kills, with Junior Amiyah Saxton leading the trio with a dozen kills on a .258 hitting average; Shania Hodges followed up with 11 kills while collecting 4 blocks; Kyrsten Bake rounded off the stat line with an even 10 kills for the Pioneers. Sophomore Alyssa Dirden led the team with 20 digs, followed by junior Jillian Glasgow, who posted the team's sole double-double with a team-high 30 assists and 12 digs. The Pioneers settle in at (3-8) on the year, winning their last three of four.

Up Next: The Pioneers will hit the court again on Tuesday, September 16th, where they look for revenge against the Lions of Freed-Hardeman University, who defeated the Pioneers back in their season opener on August 29th. #GOPIONEERS
