Pioneers Split in the Sunshine State- Wil Teague, Sports Inforamtion Director, 10/3/25
Pioneer Volleyball settles in at 7-13 overall on the season after a split in today's non-conference matchups.
Game One:
Crowley's Ridge College- 3
Baptist University of Florida- 0
Graceville, FL- The Pioneers picked up win number seven on the year with their fourth consecutive three-set sweep victory, defeating the Eagles of Baptist University of Florida with scores of 25-18, 25-11, and 25-19 in the day's opening contest. CRC posted three straight double-digit kill sets of 12,10, and 14 to finish off the hosting Eagles of BUF with little retaliation.
Brooklyn Cross led the attack in the quick matchup with the junior middle blocker, scapping up an even dozen kills in the contest. Cross was truly efficient, going 12/22 for a .455 hitting percentage for the Pioneers. Defensively, junior Mallory Hollis paced the team in digs, with the defensive specialist grabbing 13 digs in the three sets of action. Sophomore Alyssa Dirden followed up Hollis' baker's dozen with a solid 11 digs for the Pioneers in the win. The dynamite duo of Jillian Glasgow and Maddie Burris once again split the workload of assists, with Glasgow dishing out 16 assists and Burris shelling out 14. This marks the team's sixth three-set sweep of the season.
Game Two:
Crowley's Ridge- 1
Pensacola Christian- 3
Pensacola, FL- At the conclusion of game two, CRC's four-game win streak would come to an end with the Eagles of Pensacola Christian defending their home court and defeating the Pioneers in four sets. This also snapped the Pioneers' consecutive set win streak of 13 as CRC claimed set one 25-22 over the Eagles.
After the Pioneers' three-point set one win, Pensacola Christian settled in and successfully fended off the Pioneers over the next three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 26-24. A last-second rally by the Pioneers in set four gave a bright spark in hopes of forcing a short set five, but the Eagles ended the 4-point Pioneer run with a big block to take their second set point advantage of the matchup, and this time the Eagles would deliver the final blow to claim the set and match.
Brooklyn Cross led the Pioneers once more for the day, this time with 14 kills in the contest. Amiyah Saxton followed Cross with 11 kills for the Pioneer offense. Three Pioneers had double-digit digs, with Mallory Hollis leading the squad for a consecutive game with 17. Alyssa Dirden followed with 11, and Jillian Glasgow rounded off the defensive performance with 10. In the assists category, Glasgow and Maddie Burris passed out 40 of the team's 42 assists, with Glasgow's 22 assists, giving the junior the double-double, and Burris' 18.
