CRC split in today's contests, earning their first win of the season, settling in to 1-8 on the year.
Game 1:
Crowley's Ridge- 3
Hesston College- 0
Sets: 25-9 CRC, 25-19 CRC, and 25-21 CRC
Wichita, KS- The Lady Pioneers were able to capture the ever elusive, first win of the year in this morning's first matchup against Hesston College, with CRC dominating the contest and winning the matchup in good ol' sweep fashion. CRC controlled the opening set from start to finish, holding the Larks to single-digit points while rallying off 10 kills on a game-high .381 hitting percentage. In sets two and three, the Larks showed more fight, with the Pioneers pulling out set wins by closer margins of six points and four points, but with the Pioneers capping the final set with a game-high 15 kills, the Larks' fate was sealed.
The Pioneers rolled out three consecutive double-digit kill efforts in their win, totaling 35 for the match with a .250 hitting percentage. Junior leader, Amiyah Saxton, led the offensive attack with 11 kills on a .688%. Jillian Glasgow led the team in assists with 15 while also landing a career-high 8 service aces on the hardwood. Mallory Hollis led the team defensively with 13 digs. Sophomore Maddie Burris posted a double-double with 10 assists and 10 digs in the win.
Game 2:
Crowley's Ridge-1
Southwestern College-3
Sets: 25-21 CRC, 14-25 SWC, 25-27 SWC, and 21-25 SWC
Wichita, KS- After picking up a big sweep win over Hesston College, the Lady Pioneers overlapped the winner's momentum into the opening set of game two against Southwestern College, before being denied by the Jinx over the next three sets to fall in 4. The Pioneers capitalized on a matchup low .080 hitting percentage from the Jinx in round one to sneak out a 4-point win of 25-21, but soon faced an awake, alert, and attacking Jinx offense over the next three sets, which railed off 10, 15, and 17 kills to best the Pioneers. CRC walked the line of swinging things back in their favor by narrowly dropping set three, 27-25, but would be finished off by Southwestern College with the Pioneer offense producing its lowest offensive numbers in the final set.
The Pioneers totaled 41 kills on a .149 %. Brooklyn Cross led the team with 11 kills. Jillian Glasgow led the team in assists with 17, and Alyssa Dirden led in digs with 14.
Up Next: The Pioneers make their home and conference opener on Tuesday, facing off against the Eagles of Williams Baptist University in the Carter Activities Center. #GOPIONEERS
